Kolomyia Economic Development Association makes its contribution into improvement of social, economic and cultural situation in the city by efforts of its members made in economic and cultural spheres. There was launched a charitable action under the motto “Let’s listen to native music! Let’s support Ukrainian producer! Let’s care for Kolomyia!” aimed at promoting local musicians and singers – honored artists of Ukraine – and revival of cultural traditions of the region as well as support of local producers. Among young teachers, businessmen and students there was also held a business planning contest in order to analyze economic ideas emerging in youth environment and to give guidance to young people becoming entrepreneurs. During 2002–2003 under the framework of Regulatory Reform Program KEDA participated in preparation of more than 10 legal acts discussed at round tables, public hearings and conferences; 10 of these acts were adopted by city council. Among the outputs of such activity there was, for instance, establishment of a Registration Chamber, which significantly facilitated the procedure of entrepreneurs registration. The Association actively participated in designing municipal program of small business development for 2003–2004. KEDA also took part in preparation of a tourist guide “Kolomyia” in order to support tourism development in the region and in the city in particular. On July 3, 2003, KEDA implemented a project “Public participation in setting priorities of social and economic development of the city of Kolomyia” (under the framework of Regional Policy Analysis Centers Capacity Building project) under support of International Center for Policy Studies, Oleksandr Razumkov Center for Economic and Political Studies as well as financial support of International Renaissance Foundation. A children painting contest “Kolomyia future by children eyes”, dedicated to centenary anniversary of birth of famous painter Margaryta Selska, got response from the local community. The best 80 paintings were represented in the photo-album also published by KEDA. Amateur chess-players participated in the tournament “Checkmate in Kolomyia style”, which was held also due to Association initiative in December 2003. Approvals and positive results were gained as a result of a series of public hearings devoted to “Developmental priorities of the city of Kolomyia”. In the course of these hearings an objective assessment of the situation in the city was made, major trends of its future development were defined and a strategy for overcoming crisis in housing and communal services sector was proposed. For the first time in Kolomyia KEDA carried out large-scale poll in order to take the opinion of city residents concerning the ways of solution of vital problems and its developmental priorities into account while solving these problems. Besides cooperation with think-tanks mentioned above, KEDA maintains close relationships with Canadian Parkland Community Futures Development Corporation, Polish association “The Village and Europe” (Krakiv). There was established a partnership cooperation with Carpathian Fund, US Peace Corps in Ukraine, European Union (“Improving environment for small and medium business development” project), Institute for Sustainable Communities (UCAN project), Canadian Embassy, United States Embassy, Freedom House.
